A Solution, Not Just a Selection™

The 2011 CIS Report

2011 CIS ReportPrice:
$495

The CIS replacement market seems to be picking up again, after deep doldrums through most of the last decade. Having basically withdrawn from the CIS market shortly after the turn of the century, major investorowned utilities, which still serve more than 70% of all customers, seem about to be forced back into the market much more rapidly than many had anticipated. There are two major factors in this accelerated interest, the Smart Grid movement with it’s push for variable rates being one, and the simple fact that major CIS installations of the late 1990s now are nearing the end of their un-modified usable life. Smaller utilities, cooperatives and municipals, never really left the market. However, as it has turned out, they weren’t enough to keep a substantial number of CIS-only vendors afloat and, as described herein, there has been a significant shakeout of vendors and tremendous consolidation over the last five to 10 years.

This report details the new interest in CIS replacement that is being brought about by rapid-fire changes in the industry and despite the economic doldrums facing much of the nation. CIS replacement has become a bright spot for remaining CIS vendors as utilities gear up for the new demands being placed upon them by public policy. The new CISs also represent a new generation of technology now coming on board to meet these vital utility needs. With detailed vendor profiles and an update on the state-ofthe- art, this report is vital reading for utility personnel anticipating a CIS replacement effort and others who track utility technology.
